Dallas Cowboys Legend to Serve as Keynote Speaker at Annual Inspiring Hope Luncheon
The Salvation Army of North Texas is once again teaming up with the Dallas Cowboys for the annual Inspiring Hope Luncheon at AT&T Stadium on January 7 to support the ongoing needs of those combatting poverty, addiction, and homelessness in Tarrant County.
This year, Honorary Co-Chairs Kelly McMahan and Dalworthington Gardens Mayor Laurie Bianco will welcome Everson Walls, former defensive back for the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns and New York Giants, as the VIP guest and keynote speaker. Regarded as a Dallas Cowboys legend and a member of the 25th Anniversary Team, Walls received the recognition of NFL Defensive Back of the Year in 1982 and was selected for the NFL Pro Bowl four times. Following nine seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Walls went on to become a Super Bowl Champion with the New York Giants in 1991.
In addition to his reputation as a star football player, Walls is widely known for his altruism and philanthropic efforts. In 2007, he was honored with the Landry Legend Award, a recognition given to former players for exceptional character and community impact. Walls received the honor shortly following his decision to donate a kidney to close friend and former teammate Ron Springs. An advocate for organ donation and kidney disease awareness, Walls also co-founded the Gift for Life Foundation and authored A Gift for Ron, a book that details the selfless sacrifice he made for his friend.
“The Inspiring Hope Luncheon each year raises vital funds to help us support our neighbors in need in Tarrant County,” said Major Rob Webb, area commander of The Salvation Army of North Texas. “Thanks to our wonderful partnership with the Dallas Cowboys, we are able to unite as a community for something greater than ourselves at this annual event. We encourage North Texans to join us at AT&T Stadium in January or make a donation online to support the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors.”
